Michael “Bruce” Zombor, 90, of Calgary, Alberta, husband of Phyllis (Kelly), passed away peacefully at the Brentwood Care Centre in Calgary on September 7, 2020. Born in Montreal, Quebec, to Ethel and George Zombor, who had immigrated to Canada from Slovakia, the oldest of three children, Bruce lived the first half of his life in Montreal, where he married, worked and raised his three children. He then relocated and moved to Calgary, to enjoy the second half of his life.
Bruce was an avid sports enthusiast. Whether coaching, playing or watching sports on TV, sports was his passion. As a younger man, he successfully competed as a boxer in the Montreal area. Amongst other passions, he enjoyed travelling where he was able to visit many beautiful places. You could often also find yourself in deep conversations with Bruce on current events; he was always up to date on important topics. In business, Bruce worked in many industries in his lifetime, and because he enjoyed his work so much, he finally retired when he was in his early 70’s.
Besides his wife Phyllis, Bruce is survived by his three children, Norman (Beverley) Zombor, Brenda (Rod) Bowes, Kelly (Juniper) Zombor; his grandchildren Kristina and Stella; his great-grandchild Lily, as well as other family members and relatives.
The family would like to thank members of the Brentwood Care Centre for their efforts and the care they provided over the last two months. They have been a blessing to the family.
In keeping with Bruce’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. Cremation will take place at a later date. Bruce’s memorial page at South Calgary Funeral Centre and Crematorium, will be open for anyone to post memories or final words.
For those wishing to make a memorial donation in honour of Bruce, the family would like you to consider the Alzheimer’s Association of Calgary or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Calgary.
