Marshall Bernard Sitrin, was born in Utica, New York on 3/18/1931. His sister Shona was born 19 months earlier and his brother Harold was born 13 years younger. His parents, Chester and Goldie Sitrin were very involved in the Temple and kept a kosher home. He spent 4 years in the Navy as a journalist and loved to tell stories about his time there like when he snuck into the kitchen and ate the insides out of the bread and put the crusts back as if it was fresh! When he got out he moved to California to go to school and was introduced to Bobbie Sitrin on a blind date. They wed 9 months after the day they met and were happily wed for over 60 years. An hour before she died she looked at their daughter, Terri and said, "60 years, and I still love that man."
Marshall and Bobbie moved back to Utica after they wed and Marshall worked in his father's furniture store. Their son, Michael, was born in 1957. While pregnant with their second child, Terri, they moved to Los Angeles where he took a job with Water and Power and finished his bachelor's degree a few months before Terri was born. He then got his Master's degree and after that got a job with AAFES- the Army and Air Force Exchange Service. This moved the family to Hawaii where the family lived for 4 years before moving to Dallas. Around 1981 they moved back to Hawaii for 3 years and then he retired after working for AAFES for over 30 years, They lived in Austin for many years and would RV around the nation. They moved to Las Vegas and reunited with friends they had from their childhood and the Navy and had a great time.
Marshall loved to tell stories. He saw himself as a loner but you would never know that when he was in a group of people. He was very involved with Jewish War veterans as President and Secretary for many years. He loved driving "rag tops" and had convertibles most of his life. In 2018 he finally got his dream car- a 1962 cherry red Morgan. I've never seen him smile as big as he did when he was driving that car. LIving until the age of 89, he saw a lot of loss; his brother Hal passed in 2016, his wife in 2017, his son Michael in 2018. He always tried to have a positive attitude and had a great sense of humor. He loved to make people laugh and everyone that has responded to his passing has mentioned how kind he was and that he always made others feel welcome in his presence.
He had 5 grandchildren- 2 by Terri- Jessica Lee Martin and Daniel Lee and 3 by Michael, Florian, Collin and Shawn. Marshall remained sharp up to the end. His Financial Advisor told his daughter, Terri, that he called a few months ago and told him to buy stock in styrofoam companies since due to the pandemic he was seeing people use only that in his facility and figured it was the same elsewhere.
From Terri: My dad was a good man, kind, strong and positive. I am grateful that I got to spend so much time with him the last 2 years. I will miss him greatly but I am happy that he is now with his beloved wife and son.
