Jacquie Chekerda passed away on September 24, 2020 at Calgary Foothills Hospital at the age of 49 after a courageous but brief battle with liver cancer. Jacquie was born in Thompson, MB at the General Hospital. Her family later moved to Calgary, AB where she grew up with her Mom Lorraine (nee Burns), Dad Brian Zapfe and Sister Janice (nee Nelms). Jacquie met her husband Chris while she was working at her dad’s store The Muscle Car Shop in 2003. They were married in 2006 in Calgary, AB. Jacquie loved all her family and dedicated her life to her husband and children, Maia, Sam and Max. Survived by husband Chris Chekerda, children Maia, Sam and Max, Mother Lorraine Zapfe, Father Brian Zapfe, Sister Janice Zapfesmith (Husband Ian, David, Evan and Megan), Grandmother Patricia Burns (nee Fife), Grandmother Marion Zapfe (Chowan), In laws Mary Chekerda, Colette Chekerda (HusbandDarwin, Carson and Malory), Larry Chekerda (Wife Joanie, Dennon and Jenna), Ken Chekerda (Wife Lonnie, Lia and Brenna) and their beloved dog Coco and all the other family members.
Jacquie supported her children in school and all their extracurricular activities, involved in hockey, taekwondo, piano, Pathfinders and Scouts. Other than spending time with her family, she had many passions in her life like sewing, puzzles, reading, watching movies, card making, crafts, cooking, overnights with guides, walking and being outdoors. She enjoyed spending time with her many friends having girl’s nights and coffees.
Her infectious smile and sense of humor will be dearly missed by all of us. Memorial Service will be celebrated at Granary Road. On Friday, October 9, 2020 at 226066-112 St W Foothills County, AB. Due to restrictions, this in an invitation only event. Celebration extended through Zoom. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Mustard Seed at www.theseed.ca or Alberta Society of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals at www.albertaspca.org in Jacquie’s name.
A bench will be placed on the ridge in Cranston in June so that all who loved her can visit and reminisce about all the good times shared with her.
