Marianne Cook Wilkins
of Colorado Springs, Colorado
who passed away on October 3, 2020
at the age of 81.
Marianne was born in Germany to Christian and Margarete. She leaves behind two sisters: Inge and Christa, and had a brother Manfred (who predeceased her). She married William (who was in the Army in Germany) at 18 and moved between the United States and Germany. They had five children: Diana, Jeanne (who predeceased her), Roger, Cyndia and James. She also leaves behind a son-in-law Darrel and daughter-in-law Shelly. She became a U.S. citizen and enjoyed her life here in the United States and Germany. They divorced in 1971. She remarried in 1985 to Bert (who preceded her in death in 2004). She was a single mother, grandmother and great grandmother at the time of her death.
Marianne enjoyed working as a waitress at the elegant Broadmoor Golf Club for over 10 years. She then worked for Cheyenne Mountain Resort at the Mountain View Restaurant for over 25 years. She enjoyed the people she worked with, and the beauty and serenity of the gorgeous landscaping, and the awesome views of Cheyenne Mountain at both resorts. Working in these two environments brought her great joy. She looked forward to going to work each day. She retired at 70.
Marianne was a strong-willed, smart woman. She was a single mother raising five children on her own for over 10 years after her divorce. She was unselfish and determined to keep her family housed, fed and clothed - sometimes working two and three jobs without relying on the system to help her. She sacrificed so much in her life to keep her family together. Her children were her top priority in life, period. With her work ethic and determination, she taught her children to have the same qualities she aspired to. When she remarried, she continued her career because she enjoyed working with the staff at Cheyenne Mountain Resort and its environment. She was able to relax a little and enjoy life outside of work without the previous struggles.
Marianne leaves behind nine grandchildren: Allen, Travis, Joshua, Matthew, Deanna, Christopher, Christian Justin and Kaylee and eleven great-grandchildren. She is also considered a grandmother to Amber and Nicole.
Marianne is very loved by her family. Thanksgiving, Christmas and coming home will never be the same without her. She was the best mom one could ever have. She did the very best she could under all circumstances. To us, she was super-mom! She sacrificed so much. Mom – we love you and thank you so much!!!
