Patricia Alto who was better known as Pat, sweetheart, mom, sis, Aunt Pattycakes, Grandma, Gram, and good friend, to her family and friends. She passed away peacefully in her sleep, on October 7th, 2020 at her nursing home, Life Care Center of Kirkland.
Her family and all who love her describe her as loving, caring, thoughtful, diligent, responsible, honest, humble, loyal, faithful, funny, fun, and resilient.
Born in Lynbrook, NY August 22, 1928, number 14 of 15 children, Pat grew up understanding what truly matters; the joy of loving life, family, and friends. She spent her youth growing up on Long Island. At an early age she travelled to other states, providing babysitting for military families and waitressing at Woolworth’s. During World War ll, she was introduced to her husband to be John Alto by photograph and by writing to him while he was overseas. When he returned, they met for the first time and soon after married. Together they raised three children, and helped raise their grandchildren. Pat cared for her husband John when he became disabled and her terminally ill daughter Kathy until they passed. She was always there to do what needed to be done – and did so with incredible grace. She was unstoppable. Having never learned to drive, she walked everywhere to get what was needed. She was a hard worker, and a working mom.
Pat took on volunteering at the Community Center in the senior housing complex where she lived. She loved decorating for parties, helping to ready the cafeteria before and after meals, being a part of making social events fun and dressing up for Halloween. She also enjoyed taking pictures of her friends, family, and nature, but most of all she loved when her grandchildren came to visit. Her grandchildren, even as they grew older, loved spending time with their Grandma.
Pat eventually moved to Washington State and enjoyed touring the area with her son and daughter-in-law. Throughout her life, Pat faced every single challenge head on with the fortitude and wisdom to take one day at a time. She grieved the loss of her spouse, beautiful daughter, her parents and siblings, endured hurricanes, operations, and Covid. Despite it all, she continued to bring joy, she loved to laugh, chat, kid around, and share her bright smile. She lived a long life, admired, and beloved by all who knew her and she left us one enduring life lesson. It’s the simple things in life that will make you happy.
Pat leaves behind: Her sons Ed (+Sandy), Tom (+Phyllis).
Her Grandchildren: Tara (+Brian}, Jonathan (+ Morgan), Michael (+ Sue) and Samantha (+John).
Her Great Grandchildren: Kayla, Dylan, Jackson, Grace, Mae, Reid, Shea and Holten.
