Nell was born in Chattanooga to the late Ernest and Dollie Hixson Bettis. She retired from Bell South with over 50 years of service. Nell was a longtime member of Red Bank Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe E. Elkins; and sister, Ruth Shadden.
Nell is survived by several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 pm on Thursday, October 15, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Nell’s life will follow at 3 pm on Thursday, at the North Chapel with Reverend Stanley Hammonds officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made in Nell’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association at 7625 Hamilton Park Drive, Suite 6, Chattanooga, TN 37421.
