Mrs. Beulah Octavia Farley, 92 years of age, passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at her home surrounded by her family. Born on March 21, 1928 in Springdale, WV, she was the daughter of the late Arnold George Hatcher, Sr. and Flora Caroline Smith Hatcher.
Mrs. Farley was the last surviving charter member of the MacArthur Church of God (COG Family Worship Center), where for many years she taught the Senior Adult Ladies Sunday School class. She was exceptionally talented Bible teacher.
Her employment career began at the Beckley G.C. Murphy’s. She was also employed at the Lynchburg, Virginia K-Mart. She was senior manager of the Beckley Hotel and went on to Beckley Best Western for over 20 years.
Her hobbies include reading and studying the Bible, her flower gardens and flower beds, and spending time with her family. She had a God given kind and welcoming spirit noted especially by strangers she met. She has been a member of the Glen White Church of God for the last 30 years. Recently, she was recognized by the West Virginia Secretary of State’s office for having voted in every election for the last 50 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin W. Farley; brothers, Arnold Hatcher, Jr. and James W. Hatcher; one sister, Mary Hatcher Greene; sons-in-law, Harvey G. White and Paul Sharpenberg; sisters-in-law, Margie Kendrick Hatcher and Sue Sears Hatcher.
Those who remain to cherish her memory are her three children, Jesse A. Farley, Judy C. White, and Alvada Sharpenberg Keiffer and husband, Gary; grandchildren, Jerry White and wife, Shannon, Andrew Keiffer, Justin Keiffer and Michelle Keiffer; great-grandson, Jeremiah White; brothers, Bobby Hatcher of Lynchburg, VA, and William L. Hatcher and wife, Margaret of Huddleston, VA; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 11: am to 1:00 pm, Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home. Funeral Services will begin at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Home conducted by Administrative Bishop Daniel Hampton. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of the Hope Mausoleum in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
In accordance with the current CDC guidelines, the family and the staff of Blue Ridge Funeral Home ask that those who attend the services wear proper facial coverings and practice social distancing at all times.
Honoring Mrs. Farley as pallbearers will be her family and friends.
