Robert Drymalski, loving husband and father, passed away peacefully on Monday November 16, 2020 in Las Vegas, Nevada surrounded by his four loving children. Bob was born on April 19, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois to Frank Drzymalski and Carrie (Casimera Matusiewicz) Drzymalski. The world was blessed with his presence for 90 beautiful years.
After completing four years serving his country in the Navy, he found his soulmate and partner for life, Phyllis, at the Paradise Ballroom in Chicago … how fitting! In fact, Bob used to say, “We met in Paradise and it’s been paradise ever since!” They married on May 9th, 1954. Together they raised four wonderful children: Janet, Debra, Robert and Michael. Devotion to his wife and children was his top priority throughout his life. Bob lived his life with a strong value system based upon devotion to God, honesty, hard work, and the highest morale standards. Bob continuously invested his time and shared his wisdom with his children and grandchildren. He made each of us feel loved and helped us become a better person from his advice.
Bob always worked incredibly hard and dedicated his life to continuously improving himself and his ability to provide for his family. Bob enjoyed a very successful and varied 39-year career with Commonwealth Edison. He began his career in the generating station, utilizing the mechanical skills he learned in the Navy. After his first three children were born, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Illinois at Chicago Circle campus. He earned his degree while working full time in the evenings and going to school full time during the day. What an accomplishment! Bob also earned his Masters degree in Business Administration from DePaul University. With his newly earned education, he was promoted to the audit staff at Commonwealth Edison. Over the years he saved the company millions of dollars and was very proud of his contributions. Prior to his retirement, Bob was Commonwealth Edison’s lead executive for the United Way, raising funds for their many charitable causes. Throughout his life, Bob was a savvy investor with a nose for value and opportunity whether in real estate or the stock market. Dad was our Mr. Fix It … able to fix almost any problem in the house or in our hearts!
After retirement, Bob enjoyed daily walks to stay active and healthy. Bob loved to be outdoors as he appreciated the natural beauty all around him. Bob and Phyllis truly enjoyed the many cruises they took all over the world. Being on the ships took Bob back to his days in the Navy and some of his fondest memories.
Bob demonstrated his strength and determination during his 8 year battle with cancer. He began everyday with gratefulness to God and all his blessings. Not even illness could dampen his positivity and gratefulness … what a beautiful example he set for his children.
Bob was preceded in death by his father Frank, his mother Carrie, brother Lawrence, and sisters Helen and Mary. He is survived by his children, Jan Martin and husband Paul, Debra Kehm and husband Charles, Robert Drymalski, and Michael Drymalski and his wife Christina, as well as his amazing grandchildren, Sherri Howard, Jeffrey Kehm, Elliott Kehm and Brian and Alex Drymalski.
