Frances Berumen was first and foremost dedicated to her family. She was born in Los Angeles on Valentine’s Day 1932. She had 8 siblings, from the beginning she always enjoyed being part of a big family.
She married her husband, Andrew, on September 1st 1951. Together they had four daughters, Rachel, Irene, Norma and Andrea Rose. Frances was a homemaker. She was devoted to taking care of her family, including her nephews who lived across the street. She loved cooking for everyone. Family meals included Andrew, Frances, the girls, the Sanchez boys and whoever else was around that day. There was always enough to feed everyone.
As the family grew and the girls started their own families, Frances continued preparing large family meals (lasagne, tacos, chilaquiles) and inviting everyone to come over and eat. This was her way of keeping her family together.
Frances had 7 grandchildren that went on to add 18 great grandchildren. She loved them all and loved to share news about them with everyone she came across. She loved vacationing with family whether it was a quick trip to Las Vegas or a week at Lake Tahoe. She was always ready to go. Most of those trips involved supporting her grandkids at some competition or performance. That suited her just fine. She was always there at the local sports or recitals too.
Frances was a big Dodgers and USC fan. She would often call family to find out what time they were playing and on what channel. Those conversations were often hilarious as we tried to help her hear the difference between channel 56 and 66. But once she found it she was locked in. She loved her garden where she grew various fruits and flowers. She loved being outside, watering, and keeping up with neighborhood news.
Frances was a fan of games too. She loved to get together with friends and family to play bingo and pull tabs. Frances loved playing Uno and Skip-Bo with her family at home too. Anything to bring the family together, that’s what she always wanted.
