Elena Chavez was born in Miami, Arizona on August 18, 1926. She grew up close to her siblings Eloisa, David, Sammy, Stella, and Elias. She met Jesus Avila in church and they were married in 1948. They raised two daughters, Norma and Esther in Phoenix. Faith and Family were the centers of their values. Elena served in her church for over 80 years. Jesus passed away in 1994, after 46 years of marriage. Following his passing, Elena married a widowed Delfino Rivera in 1996 and they were married until his passing in 2019.
Elena loved to cook, read, watch Diamondback games, host her family and friends, and travel. She touched and impacted everyone who met her through her kindness, generosity, grave, and class. She embodied beauty inside and out; "Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all"-Proverbs 31:29.
Elena is survived by her two daughters Norma Martinez (Manuel), Esther Bracamonte (Frank); six grandchildren Jesus Daniel Bracamonte (Darcy), Jason Martinez, Frankie Bracamonte, Erica Chavez (David), Jacob Bracamonte (Alysia), Nick Martinez (Tiffany); eleven great grandchildren Caleb Bracamonte, Kaitlyn Bracamonte, Aidan Bracamonte, Julian Chavez, Madeleine Bracamonte, Elena Chavez (her namesake), Caliean Bracamonte, Desmond Martinez, Samantha Phillips, Mariah Phillips, Christopher Bracamonte; and her siblings David Bustos and Stella Gallegos.
At this time, only private services will be held. A celebratory memorial of her life and legacy will be arranged in the summer of 2021.
