"If ever there is a tomorrow when we're not together, there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we're apart I'll always be with you." Christopher Robin
The world lost a very special person suddenly on January 3, 2021. For those who knew and loved Tina, there will always be a special place in their hearts for her. Born in Glace Bay, on August 23, 1968, Tina was the beloved daughter of Kevin and Diane (Crawford) McNamara, wife of Danny Roney and mother of Aiden. She was the loving sister of Dana McNamara-Morse, Karen MacDougall (Patrick) and Maureen McNamara (Cary MacDonald) and sister-in-law Connie Roney (Alex Fettes). She is also survived by a large extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, great nephews and a great-niece.
Tina lived in Sydney and graduated from Sydney Academy. She attended the University of New Brunswick and graduated with her Bachelor of Nursing Degree. She later attended Dalhousie University earning her Masters of Nursing Degree.
Tina spent the majority of her career working in Capital Health. She was one of the original Expanded Role Nurses (later designated as Nurse Practitioners) in NS in 1997. Tina pioneered the Geriatric Nurse Practitioner role.
The last 20 years of her nursing career was dedicated to geriatric medicine with the Nova Scotia Health. Her love of older adults living with frailty was evident in the passion she displayed for her work. In-patient or out-patient care, Tina’s focus was always on building relationships with a patient-family centred approach. Tina dedicated her life to mentoring, coaching, and educating.
Tina was a member of Saint Agnes Roman Catholic Parish Church, an executive member of CGNA and a founding member of the Nurse Practitioner Association of Nova Scotia (NPANS). She also spent many years professionally involved with the Diabetes Care Program of Nova Scotia.
She was a fitness enthusiast who loved vacationing, music, painting and spending time with her family. With a smile that lit up a room and a laugh that was contagious, Tina’s quick wit and sense of humor was a gift to all of us. Tina cherished the time she spent laughing and talking with her family, friends and especially her mother. Tina treasured the time she spent walking in Point Pleasant Park with Danny, Aiden, Broc and Rollie. Tina leaves a legacy of love and kindness that will never be forgotten.
Tina was a transplant recipient on two occasions. She received a kidney from Dana in 2003 which gave her and Danny the most wonderful son in the world. In 2010 Tina’s aunt, Colleen McNamara, gave her a second kidney allowing Tina the opportunity to show Aiden how much she loved him. Tina was incredibly grateful for these gifts. Tina’s courage and strength in the face of adversity were an inspiration to all of us.
Tina is predeceased by her father Kevin and brother-in-law David Morse.
The profound impact Tina has had in her personal and professional lives will continue to touch the lives of so many for years to come. Thank you Tina, for being the most amazing woman we have had the honor of loving.
