Bill was born in Lee County, Virginia to William L. and Bobbie VanDeventer. He was a World War II veteran and worked in the dairy industry for over 35 years. Bill was a member of First Baptist Church of Indian Trail and served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and choir member in various churches throughout his life.
Bill was preceded in death in 1989 by his first wife, Katherine; his sister, Mary Johnson; and his grandson, Kevin Cook.
He is survived by his wife, Lauretta VanDeventer; daughters, Debbie & Jerry Cook of California and Carolyn & Tom Campbell of Ohio; step-daughter, Gale & Bob Greenlee of Lake Park; grandchildren, Brian & Tina Cook, Christy & Drew Smalley, Amy & Matthew Whisler, Jared & Ally Cook, and Kelly & Ben Jacobs; and step-grandsons, Chris & Christine Greenlee and Craig & Maria Greenlee; 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Also surviving are two brothers, one sister, many nieces and nephews, and countless friends.
A service to celebrate Bill’s life will be held 2:00 pm, Thursday, January 14, 2021, at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel, with Pastor Mike Whitson officiating. Burial will take place in Ohio.
