Emma Josephine Fulton Adcock went home to be with our Lord Jesus on Sunday, January 10, at the age of 80. She passed peacefully at home after more than six years of both winning and losing in her courageous battle with cancer.
Emma “Jo” was born in Dardanelle, Arkansas, to Oma Leota George Fulton and William Lloyd Fulton on March 4, 1940. Most of her growing up years were spent in Little Rock, Arkansas. She graduated from Central High School in 1957 and attended Arkansas State University before her marriage in 1959 to her young Army officer and sweetheart, Jerry Wayne Adcock.
Being an Army wife meant frequent moves and so Jo held various jobs across her career. She was a church secretary, school secretary, and a school district administrative assistant. She worked in the contracts department for Tetra Pak for many years and ended her career as the Safety & Compliance Administrator for Jostens, Inc. in the Dallas area where she and Jerry ultimately settled after his retirement from the military. Jo and Jerry enjoyed many happy years of full retirement in the Lake Fork, Texas, community where they attended Lake Fork Baptist Church and were active in their neighborhood association. Jo most looked forward to hosting many wonderful gatherings of family and friends at their beautiful lakeside home, creating so many wonderful and lasting memories for everyone.
All who knew and loved Jo will remember her beautiful smile and her selfless love and tireless devotion to her family. In their retirement, she and Jerry put thousands of miles on their cars driving to their grandchildren’s football, baseball, basketball, and soccer games and were sideline favorites of all who gathered there. She and Jerry also rarely missed a band performance, orchestra or choir concert, or any of the many award ceremonies and graduation ceremonies for their grandchildren. Proverbs 17:6 tells us that grandchildren are the crown of the aged. Jo’s grandchildren were her precious crown. She “wore” them around and considered them far more beautiful than any priceless jewels. Her children’s and grandchildren’s friends were always welcomed in her home and always treated like family. The number of people, young and old, who affectionately called her “Gran” was far greater than her own seven grandchildren.
Emma Jo is survived by her loving husband, Jerry Wayne Adcock; three children, Jeffry Adcock (wife Michelle), Jill Adcock Barclay (husband Bret), Joy Adcock McHargue (husband Patrick); 7 grandchildren, Christopher Adcock (Marissa), Garrett Adcock (Natalie), John Houston, Scott Houston (Traci), Rachel Barclay Brachtenbach (Steve), Benjamin Barclay (Shannon), Kaitlin McHargue Fedro (Evan); 6 great grandchildren, Emery and Jackie Adcock, Lily and Thomas Houston, and Samuel and Hannah Brachtenbach. She is also survived by her sister Joy Dillahunty (husband Bud) and brother Claude Fulton (wife Karen Fulton). She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Peggy Lou Fulton Poteet.
Funeral services for Emma Jo will be held on Saturday, January 23, at the Ted Dickey West Funeral Home. The family welcomes you to leave messages for her family and see the details of the service at: https://bit.ly/3qfqZbo.
