About

Little & Sons Funeral Home in Beech Grove, Indiana, provides funeral and cremation services that honor cherished loved ones and celebrate life. The Little and Denning families and their funeral homes have been providing compassionate and professional care to Hoosier families since 1927. For more than 90 years, our commitment to excellence has remained unchanged, yet our funeral home and caring team have always responded to the needs of our community.

A comfortable Beach Grove funeral home

Little & Sons Funeral Home on Main Street in Beach Grove is a comfortable place to plan and hold a funeral or memorial. With multiple chapels, a large reception space and a team who works with people from all walks of life, we are experienced in planning tributes small and large, simple or elaborate.

Personalized funerals and memorials

We believe every person’s life is unique—and deserves to be celebrated in a unique and memorable way. Our team is skilled at creating one-of-a-kind tributes that honor and showcase a loved one’s passions, individuality and personality. Did he love racing? A themed memorial could include a racetrack floor runner, monster hot dogs and a checkered flag send-off. Did she have a green thumb? We can decorate with her favorite plants and give family and friends personalized seeds packets to plant at home. If you can imagine it, we’ll try to do it.

Of course, if you prefer a traditional funeral, we are experts in that, too.

Cremation services

Not everyone knows that there are many cremation options. If you are interested in cremation, the funeral home team can explain the process and the different memorial and burial choices. From a direct cremation without a service or a witness to a full funeral service before or after the cremation and more, we help you understand this increasingly common decision.

Pre-plan with us

When you pre-plan a funeral or cremation, you remove the guesswork for family members. You decide whether you want a casket burial or cremation, a traditional funeral or a modern celebration of life. You can plan your own music, choose a theme, pick a memorial location, and even decide on cemetery property.

Pre-planning also allows you to face difficult decisions when you are calm and focused, keeping your loved ones from becoming burdened with hard choices under emotional circumstances. Prearrangements also allow you to lock in current pricing, protecting you and your loved ones against future rising costs.

History

George and Naomi Liddil started Little & Sons Funeral Home at 23rd and Talbott streets in Indianapolis in 1927. George also worked for the railroad, operating the funeral home on the side. When George died from an accident on the railroad, Naomi turned the funeral business over to their son, Vernon, who along with his wife, Alma, moved Little & Sons Funeral Home into a rented storefront at 5th and Main streets. They lived upstairs and also ran an ambulance service that served Beech Grove and the south side of Indianapolis.

Later the funeral home moved to 10th and Main, and after that to Albany Street. Both of those locations were also rented family residences, but in 1958 the Beech Grove community offered to help Vernon build his own funeral home. Vernon and Alma owned a piece of land at the corner of 13th Avenue and Main Street, and the community banded together and sold stock in Little & Sons to generate money to build a funeral home there. It opened in 1958 and remains the site of the Beech Grove location of Little & Sons Funeral Home.

In 1986, Alma and Vernon’s children, Jim, Lee, and Kay, took over the family business. Things were very busy; in 1988 Little & Sons Funeral Home performed 307 services out of the Beech Grove location—its busiest year ever.

To keep up with demand, the siblings built a second location of Little & Sons Funeral Home on East Stop Eleven Road on the south side of Indianapolis in 1995. The expansion made sense, says Kay, because so many of the younger people who were raised in Beech Grove migrated to the south of Beech Grove. It also allowed the business to better serve the Franklin Township and Greenwood communities. Lee and Jim both became funeral directors. Their sons, Michael and Kerry Little, continue to work at Little & Sons. Kay’s son, Edward Denning, worked for Little & Sons for close to 30 years, but he has moved on to another profession.

By 1998, Lee and Jim wanted to retire and sell the business. Shortly thereafter Little & Sons became a member of the Dignity Memorial® network of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers.

Kay continues to work at the funeral home, upholding her family’s legacy. She is licensed to write prearrangements and helped pioneer the funeral home’s LIFT program for people who have lost their spouses. “I feel that being raised in the funeral home has given me the compassion one needs to understand and work with people who have lost a loved one. I will continue to work and be here for my community and the people I love,” she says.
