A modern, updated space loaded with amenities

Chapel at Greenwood Memorial Park & Funeral HomeThe interior decor of Greenwood Funeral Home was professionally updated in 2017, and we continually work to improve our facilities and services. New furniture, flooring, calming wall colors and modern light fixtures give our spaces a contemporary look and feel. A spacious funeral chapel seats 150 guests; spillover space takes capacity to nearly 200. It has a state-of-the-art video and sound system for music and multimedia tributes.

Families also have access to two intimate gathering rooms for visitations or small services. Our reception room seats up to 50 for a catered event—anything from a continental breakfast to an ice cream social to a sit-down dinner—before or after a ceremony. With a range of experts at our fingertips, we’re happy to help you hire caterers, musicians, florists and more.

Whether you prefer an intimate gathering or a grand event, our funeral home accommodates services of all sizes and types. Webcasting allows faraway family and friends to watch a service live from anywhere on their computer, smartphone or tablet.

Let’s celebrate life

Celebration of life venue for services, gatherings and receptions at Greenwood Memorial Park & Funeral HomeThere are countless ways to celebrate a person’s life, and the experts at Greenwood create meaningful and memorable tributes that reflect a loved one’s passions and personality. Though traditional religious funeral services remain a popular option, we recognize that you may prefer a contemporary and upbeat Celebration of Life ceremony instead. Our attentive funeral directors and funeral celebrant specialize in creating custom memorials that truly speak to the lives of individuals. You can inspire us with a memory of your loved one, a hobby that grew into a passion, a favorite music genre or a portfolio of hand-created art, and we will work to gracefully incorporate as many personal elements as you would like into the service.

Was your loved one a car enthusiast? We’ll display antique vehicles in the parking lot and then use them for the processional to the gravesite. Or was she a lifelong quilter? We’ll showcase the handmade blankets in the chapel. From tomato plants to taxidermy, motorcycles to musical instruments, we will go to the ends of the earth to create something truly special.

Cremation services in Seattle

We specialize in cremation services that honor loved ones in personalized ways, and families love our transparent pricing. With expertise in scattering ashes and a friendly team who pays attention to every detail, we provide service that is second to none. And now we offer both traditional flame cremation and water cremation.

More and more people are choosing cremation over traditional burial, but most aren’t familiar with the many options:

  • a cremation without a funeral or memorial service of any kind.
  • a funeral with your loved one present, followed by cremation.
  • a cremation followed by a scattering, cemetery memorialization or celebration of life—or all three.

For those who wish for a more momentous memorial, Neptune Memorial Reef® is an underwater cremation garden off the coast of Florida. A Celestis Memorial Spaceflight takes ashes into space for a little while or forever.

There are many cremation providers—and they're not all equal. Here's what you can expect when you choose us for your loved one's cremation:

  • Custody of care guaranteed. Our custody-of-care program helps safeguard the identification of your loved one from the time we bring them into our care until the time we return them to your family. We check, cross-check and check again, every step of the way.
  • Exclusive custody of your loved one. We use only crematories owned and operated by Dignity Memorial®; providers or trusted partners. Once your loved one is in our custody or that of a trusted partner, they’re in our care until they’re returned to your family.
  • Licensed, certified, conscientious staff. All Dignity Memorial crematory operators are licensed and certified by Cremation Association of North America, or CANA. Only one person at a time is cremated, and the cremation chamber is thoroughly cleaned before the next person is cremated.

Now offering human composting

Human composting is an alternative to burial and cremation. Inside a vessel created especially for this purpose, organic elements, such as wood chips, mulch and wildflowers, gently transform a body into nutrient-rich soil. Your family may choose to use this soil to plant trees or flowers, or you can place it in a location meaningful to you. The remaining soil is sent to conservation land on the Olympic Peninsula to aid projects such as reforestation, improving soil health and restoring challenged ecosystems.

Specializing in Asian funeral services

Greenwood Funeral Home welcomes and respects families from all cultures, and we perform a large number of Asian services each year. Our chapel is equipped with a ventilation system designed to handle burning incense. We accommodate the burning of joss paper just outside the chapel door, and the grounds of Greenwood Memorial Park have multiple burning barrels.

Buddhism is Asia’s most widespread religion, and many members of the community we serve are Buddhist. We take pride in understanding various Buddhist customs and can provide everything a family needs for a traditional Buddhist service.

Greenwood Memorial Park cemetery

Columbarium at Greenwood Memorial Park & Funeral HomeSituated on 40 acres replete with beautiful blossoming trees, a variety of flowers and shrubs and well-kept landscaping, Greenwood Memorial Park provides a quiet place to honor the memory of loved ones. We are among the few cemeteries in the Renton area to offer exclusive private family mausoleums, a patio mausoleum, indoor glass-front niches, lawn crypts and a wide variety of cremation memorialization options such as estates, memorial benches, niches and columbaria. At Greenwood Memorial Park, we strive to meet every Seattle family’s burial needs and understand that choosing cemetery property is an important and often emotional decision.

Gardens that honor Asian cultures

Unique feature at Greenwood Memorial Park & Funeral HomeThe most impressive gardens at Greenwood Memorial Park are Garden of Eternal Peace and Lotus Garden. To honor the rich and vibrant Asian population in the Seattle area, these gardens have Asian-inspired features and were designed with the influence of a feng shui master. Garden of Eternal Peace was built in 2006 and has a magnificent pagoda surrounded by upright monuments with curved Asian-inspired roofs, private estates made of brick and a relaxing water fountain. A newer development, Lotus Garden, has a dragon water feature and offers private estates made of slate.

Anyone is welcome to choose Lotus Garden or Garden of Eternal Peace as their final resting spot. Greenwood Memorial Park also includes gardens dedicated to the Vietnamese and Filipino cultures.

Prepared for future generations

Greenwood Memorial Park stands ready to serve many more generations of Renton, Seattle and Tacoma families. Our property still has undeveloped land and plenty of space for future generations.

We care about Seattle

Seattle is a vibrant and diverse community—and we are lucky to be a part of it. Greenwood Memorial Park and Greenwood Funeral Home participate in numerous events in the community each year and hold events large and small on the property annually. Among them are an April Ching Ming festival for Chinese families to remember their ancestors and loved ones. We serve lunch, set off firecrackers and invite traditional dragon dancers. We also host an event on Memorial Day weekend to honor veterans and military families. During that event, we serve hot dogs and help guests find their loved ones’ final resting spots. Volunteers place American flags on markers and there is usually a flyover with a B-52 bomber.

History

Greenwood Memorial Park has served the Renton community since 1910. The cemetery is the final resting spot of many notable politicians, entrepreneurs, soldiers and a legendary rock star. The oldest marker in the cemetery dates back to 1887. In 1984, Greenwood Funeral Home opened on the cemetery property to provide convenience Seattle-area families.
