IN THE CARE OF
Murphy Funeral Homes
Charles "Papa" F. Yow, 77, passed away, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family, on November 28, 2018 in Arlington, Virginia. Charlie was born in Sanford, North Carolina on March 4, 1941 to Arlie and Annie Yow.
Charles was predeceased in death by his parents, Arlie and Annie Mae Hughes Yow.
He is survived by his wife, Gwen Wells-Yow; sisters, Peggy George, Doris Hancock; brother, Clarence Yow; sons, Chris (wife: Kathleen) and Jeff (wife: Carmen); grandchildren, Danny, Shannon, Brittany, and Tommy; great grandchildren, Olivia and Victoria; daughters-in-law, Yvonne and Christine; and many nieces and nephews.
Papa, also known as "Chuck" to many others, served his younger years in the United States Marine Corps. After completing his service, Charlie decided to continue his life in Arlington, VA where he bought a gas station on Columbia Pike and settled in to a life here in the big city. His passion for the Blue Angels, Washington Redskins, Tar Heels (Basketball) and Merle Haggard were undeniable. The love he had for his wife, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was irrefutable and unconditional. Papa was the rock of our family, never passed judgment on others, was always there and never asked for anything in return, but only for others to be kind and love one another.
Charlie’s visitation will be held on Monday, December 3, 2018 from 6pm until 8:30pm at Murphy’s Funeral Home in Arlington, VA. The memorial service will begin on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at 10:00am, followed by gravesite service at 1:00pm where Charlie will be laid to rest at Quantico National Cemetery in Triangle, VA.
