IN THE CARE OF
Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home
Bruce C. Drager, 87, of Bloomington died Monday, January 4, 2021 in Golden Living Center. He was born July 2, 1933 in Chicago, IL to Raymond C. Drager and Gertrude E. (Madin) Drager. He was raised in the Kenwood section on Chicago’s south side and attended Hyde Park High School where he graduated in 1950. He was employed by the Illinois Central and Santa Fe Railroads prior to relocating to New York, NY in 1955 where he began a long career at the New York-Cornell Medical Center as a Data Control Coordinator, retiring in 1995. Bruce moved to Bloomington from New York City in July of 2004.
Bruce never stopped being a railroad buff and over the years traversed 21,500 miles of Amtrak’s then 24,000 mile system. He was also a sober member of Alcoholics Anonymous since June 1980. Bruce’s knowledge of world history was immense, all having been learned through self-study. He was also an avid lover of opera; this included attending performances at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, at the Indiana University Opera Theater in Bloomington, and daily listening to his CD collection. His understanding of the art form was deep and he was a great fan of many beloved opera singers.
Bruce was loved by more people than he was aware of because of his loyal devotion to them and his wisdom in sharing and explaining his own life experiences.
There are no survivors.
Bruce will be cremated and there are no funeral services planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home.
