Obituary of Jean Marie MacFiggen
Jean Marie MacFiggen, 89, of Charlottesville, passed away on January 26, 2018, with her daughter by her side. Jean was born on June 19, 1928, in Erie PA, to the late David and Thora Meehan Dudley. Jean was a devoted wife and mother. Jean created loving homes in Erie, Syracuse and Rochester, NY and Milwaukee, WI before retiring with her husband David to Charlottesville. She enjoyed traveling with David throughout the world. She especially enjoyed visiting museums at every city she visited. Jean enjoyed gardening, reading mysteries, driving her 1976 Pontiac Firebird, amassing a large Teddy Bear collection, and keeping an impeccable home. In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband David, after 68 years together. Jean is survived her sister Janet Gillespie of KY; daughter, Debbie Parmelee and husband Vic of Charlottesville, sons Dale H. MacFiggen and wife Ella of Alabama, and David D. MacFiggen of Ohio; daughter-in-law Jan MacFiggen of California; grandsons James, Scott, and Jason MacFiggen of California, Daniel Parmelee of Warrenton, VA, and Brad MacFiggen of Alabama; and great-granddaughters, Lorelei MacFiggen of Alabama and Skylar MacFiggen of California. You can shed tears that she is gone Or you can smile because she has lived You can close your eyes and pray that she will come back Or you can open your eyes and see all that she has left Your heart can be empty because you can’t see her Or you can be full of the love that you shared You can remember her and only that she is gone Or you can cherish her memory and let it live on. Excerpted from “She is gone” by David Haskins A private service will be held at Teague Funeral Home and Monticello Memory Gardens.
