Mel Bryan Norford

Millard Bryan Norford, of Charlottesville, Va. and New Cumberland, Pa., passed away on Thursday, April 12, 2018. He was born on January 4, 1933, in Lemoyne, Pa., and was a graduate of New Cumberland High School, Elizabethtown College and the School of Social Work at the University of North Carolina. He served in the United States Coast Guard during the early 1950’s and was stationed on an ice breaker on Lake Superior out of Duluth, Minn. Millard was director of the Baptist Children’s House in Philadelphia and worked as a social worker and guidance counselor in the Albemarle County Schools. His family meant the world to him and he never missed the annual Norford Family Reunion at Preddy’s Creek Church in Stony Point. Millard had deep ties to the Stony Point community and was a long-time member of the local Ruritan Club. Millard was preceded in death by brothers, Charles Norford, Harry Norford and Edward Norford. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Anne Baldwin Norford; by son, David Norford and his wife, Joanne; by daughter, Beth Norford; by son, Mark Norford and his wife, Lezlie; by grandchildren, Eric Norford, Falon Norford, Brice Norford, Tanion Norford and Case Norford; by sisters, Jean Norford Hall and Sandra Norford Yetter; and by many loving nieces and nephews. He had a very special relationship with all of his “kids” from the Children’s Home and in recent years enjoyed reunions in Virginia and Pennsylvania. The family will receive visitors on Tuesday evening, April 17, 2018, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Teague Funeral Home in Charlottesville, Va. A funeral service and interment, officiated by the Reverend Denny Burnette, will be conducted on Wednesday, April 18, at 1:30 at Preddy’s Creek Baptist Church in Stony Point, Va. A Celebration of Life is planned for May 5, 2018, at the Stony Point Ruritan Club.
