Obituary of Oscar W. Stephen
Oscar W. Stephen, 97, of Connersville, died Tuesday morning, March 6, 2018, at Heritage House of Connersville. A Connersville native born January 28, 1921, Oscar was one of six children of Noah R. and Opal Rowe Stephen. He was a 1939 graduate of Harrisburg High School. Oscar was married July 9, 1942 to the former Josephine Kibby who died in 1984. He joined the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant while working as an airplane maintenance technician. Oscar was a member of Central Christian Church where he had served as a deacon. He also was a member of the American Legion and Warren Lodge #15, F.& A.M. In 1984, he retired as a foreman from Design and Manufacturing. Oscar had previously been employed at Davison Enamel, H.H. Robertson and American Kitchens. Oscar loved to tinker and had restored several old cars to their original condition. Oscar is survived by his grandchildren: Denise Stephen, Jeff Stephen and his wife, Tracy, all of Connersville; great-grandchildren: Eilish Harmeyer and her husband, Karl; Brittany Bowden and her husband, Matthew; Taylor Stephen, Samantha Stephen, Sean Davis; great-great-grandchildren: Kambria Harmeyer and Noah; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Oscar was preceded in death by his son: Mark H. Stephen, who died in 1988; his sisters: Bethel Turner, Louise Pollitt and Loretta Seever; his brothers: Charles Stephen and Robert Hooper; his daughter-in-law: Joan Peck; and his dog, Boots. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 11, 2018,at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Rev. Jeffery Deaton of Central Christian Church officiating. Interment will follow in Springersville Cemetery.
