Judy C. Smith

It is with sad hearts but wonderful memories that we announce the passing of Judy (Cook-Doornkaat) Smith. Judy passed away peacefully at the age of 76 on Wednesday, June 24, 2020. She will be forever remembered and deeply loved by her daughter Cindy (Thomas) Leahy. Preceded in death by her parents Leonard (Helen) Cook Sr., her first husband Richard Doornkaat, step-brother Leonard (Lois) Cook Jr. and step-daughter Evelyn (Steve) Pearl. She leaves behind her current husband Kenneth Smith, step-children Carl (Jenny) Smith, Wilma (Arlie) Fugate, Brothers Ronald (Karen) Cook, Robert (Irene) Cook, numerous step-brothers, step-sisters, nieces and nephews. Judy was a natural nurturer who was big on hugs and kisses. Her nurturing spirit included serving as caregiver for her Father, her current husband and offering comfort to other nursing home residents. She considered her role as a Mother her proudest accomplishment. You would always find Judy with a cup of coffee and a furry critter on her lap. And despite the challenges she faced later in life, she never lost her sense of humor nor interest in “getting into trouble” with her daughter. Family and friends may gather at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home located at 8178 Cline Ave in Crown Point on Tuesday, June 30th, 2020 from 10:00 am – 1 PM. Funeral service to honor Judy will take place at 1 PM, followed by burial at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Please leave words of kindness and comfort below.
