Mary Jane Sapyta Mary Jane Sapyta age 80 of Schererville, IN, peacefully passed away on Friday, September 11, 2020. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, James Walter Sapyta; children, Tony (Kathy) Sapyta of Griffith, IN, Diane Brehm of Rapid City, South Dakota and Peggy (Ed) Sarwacinski of Valparaiso, IN; 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; siblings, Betty Arney, Mickey Skaggs, Terry (Sunny) Skaggs, Geri (John) Garcia and Shirley Burnett. Preceded in death by parents, Arley and Evelyn Skaggs, Brother Bradley Skaggs and Sister Nancy Hocott. Mary was born on May 1, 1940 in Hammond, IN to the late Arley Allen and Evelyn Viola Skaggs and was a 1959 graduate of Dyer Central High School. On December 9, 1961, she married the love of her life and together they raised 3 children. Mary loved her garden and played pinochle with friends. She was an avid reader and loved spending time with her grandchildren. Mary was a kind and loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother and will truly be missed by all whose lives she touched. A Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2020 from 12:00-2:00 PM at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Avenue Crown Point, IN directly followed by burial of cremains at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Please join Mary's family as they celebrate her life. Due to the current conditions of Covid-19, masks are required for attendance. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your favorite charity.
