Obituary of Katie M. Buttram
Katie M. Buttram, 90, of Evansville, IN passed away at her daughter’s home on Sunday, July 26, 2020. She was born in Henshaw, KY and moved with her family to Evansville in the early 40’s. Katie graduated from Reitz High School, class of 1948. When she started working outside of her home Katie was a secretary to “Uncle Bob” at the Baby Shop. She was also secretary /bookkeeper for her husband’s business, Wayne Buttram Construction. She and her two sisters owned and operated The Kraft Haus at North Park. Katie then worked at DeJong’s until their close. She was very supportive of her husband, Wayne, and his work at the Hadi Shrine, which culminated with him being potentate of Hadi Temple in 1986. She was a lifelong member of West Side Christian Church and a 50 plus year member of the Daughters of the Nile. Katie had many craft talents as well as being an excellent seamstress, which she shared with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, of 55 years R. Wayne Buttram; parents, Leonard and Elcie Bateman; brothers, Jospeh Glenn Bateman, Ivan ”Speedy” Bateman, James B. Bateman; sister, Helen J. Buttram. Katie is survived by her daughter, Karen J. Gass (Bob); son, Steven W. Buttram (Charla); grandchildren, Greg Gass, David Gass (Trisha), Stephanie Stone (Mark), Rick Buttram (Jenny); six great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; sister, Shirley Bryan (Patric). Numerous nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 30, 2020 at Alexander West Chapel live streamed at www.facebook.com/FuneralStreamUSA officiated by Pastor Jerry Wright and Father Ted Tempel with entombment to follow in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
