Norman E Messel

Norman “Gene” Messel, 75, of Evansville, IN passed away Thursday, August 1, 2019, at Deaconess Midtown. He was born in Vincennes, IN on January 25, 1944, to late Maurice, who was shot down and killed in WWII and Myrtel (Cameron) Messel. Gene served in the US Marines. He worked at Vectren for 35 years as a lineman and a line foreman, and was a farmer. His hobbies were fishing, gardening, and camping. He was very creative with his hands and could build or fix anything. Gene loved to hunt moles in his yard. His greatest love was his family. He took great pride in helping others. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Nancy Hildenbrand. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Linda; daughter, Andrea J. Reinitz (Curt); son, Chad E. Messel (Kelli); grandchildren, Kol and Elise Reinitz, Levi, Bryce, Molly and Maggie Messel; nephew, Doug Hildenbrand; brother-in-law, Robert Hildenbrand; life-long friends, Sonny Primus (Sandy). Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at Zion Lippe United Church of Christ, 9000 Copperline Road, Mt. Vernon, IN, officiated by Rev. Terry Farmer. Friends may visit Monday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Alexander West Chapel, 2100 W. Illinois St. Evansville IN 47712, and Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church.
