Gara Vinson Malesky, born on December 4th, 1940 in Lee County, Mississippi, died peacefully surrounded by family June 4th, 2017 in her home in Fairfax, VA. Gara served in one of the first Peace Corps classes in Cameroon, West Africa, worked as a school teacher in Charlotte, NC in the mid-1960s and then lived around the world with her then husband, Lann Malesky, who was a Foreign Service Officer. Gara has lived in the City of Fairfax for the past 33 years and is survived by her two sons, Alvin Malesky and Lowell Malesky and his wife Katy, three grandchildren (Kendall, Kelsey, and Joshua) and her younger sister, Brenda Hare of Tupelo, Mississippi. She will be missed tremendously by her family. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday June 8th from 3 PM until time of service at 4 PM in the funeral home chapel of Demaine F.H. 10565 Main Street Fairfax, VA 22030. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Environmental Defense Fund (www.edf.org) or her wish would be to simply plant a tree in her memory.
