Obituary of Alfred C. Perham
Alfred Columbus Perham 29 November 1927 - 12 January 2021 Alfred Columbus Perham, 93, passed away January 12, 2021, at Greenspring Village in Springfield, Virginia. A gentle man with a dignified manner, Alfred will be remembered for his strong moral code, commitment to family and true devotion to his wife Dotty during their 66 years of marriage. He lived a long and rewarding life and will be missed by all. He is survived by his son Carl Perham, daughter-in-law Charlotte and granddaughter Grace of Fairfax, Virginia; daughter Patricia Eley and son-in-law Tim Eley of Burke, Virginia; and several sisters and brothers: Margaret “Peggy” and Gil Turner, South Paris, Maine; Douglas Perham, Moorestown, New Jersey and partner Sharon Cresci, Auburn, Maine; Mary Ann Brown, West Paris, Maine; John and Iris Perham, Newton, Massachusetts; Martha Bryant, Greene, Maine; Nancy Perham, San Diego, California; his sisters-in-law Fay Perham, Knox, Maine; and Margaret “Peg” Perham, West Paris, Maine; along with many nieces and nephews.. He was preceded in death by his wife Doris “Dotty” Westlund Perham and son John W. Perham; his parents, Harold C. Perham and Mary “Maizie” Slattery Perham; his brothers Harold Perham Jr, Roscoe “Rusty” Perham, Sidney Perham, Joseph Perham and Bradley Perham; and sister Natalie Rice; his sisters-in-laws. June Perham, Sarah Perham, Mary Ann Perham and Kathy Perham; and brothers-in-laws Herbert J. Rice Jr,, Raymond “Ray” Brown, Roger Sirois and Bob Bryant. Alfred was born on Nov. 29, 1927, in West Paris, Maine, one of 13 children. He attended West Paris High School, leaving before he graduated to join the U.S. Navy during the 2nd World War. After the war he attended and graduated from Fryeburg Academy, Fryeburg, Maine. He received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Northeastern University. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy (1945-1947). He and Dotty married in June 1953. After moving to the metro D.C. area in the late 1950s, he was employed as a patent examiner at the U.S. Patent Office before retirement in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, where he had lived for 48 years before moving to Greenspring Village. A public service will not be held because of current health and safety concerns. A small family burial service is planned at National Memorial Park in Falls Church, Virginia.
