IN THE CARE OF
Murphy Funeral Homes
On Saturday, March 13, 2021, after a short battle with Covid-19, William Hugh Zietz of Arlington, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away at age 78.
Bill was born on November 14, 1942 in Washington, DC to Isidore and Frances Zietz. A lifelong resident of the DC area, he received both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Maryland, was a member of the DC National Guard and enjoyed a 30-year career working for several divisions of the federal government. Married to Jean (Berke) Zietz since 1975, Bill was a devoted husband, loving father to Claire (and son-in-law, Alex), and doting Pop-Pop to Sadie and Gemma.
Able and willing to talk to anyone, Bill will also be remembered for practicing his tennis swing, accomplished bridge and poker skills, completing daily NYT crosswords, cheering on all Washington sports teams (including his favorites, the Redskins and Lady Terps), corny jokes, savoring every meal he ever ate and agreeing to endless pony rides on his back for his granddaughters.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Jean; daughter, Claire (son-in-law, Alex); granddaughters, Sadie and Gemma; brother, Lewis.
No funeral will be held. In lieu of flowers or charitable donations, the family asks that you tell the people nearest to you how much you love them. Condolences and fond memories may be made for the Zietz family at www.murphy-fh.com.
