Obituary of Virginia "Ginny" P. Dolk
Virginia P. (Ginny) Dolk, 89, of Fort Wayne, passed away on March 8, 2018. Born on May 12, 1928, in Danville, Illinois, she was the daughter of William B. and Hazel (Morrison) Porter. She was a longtime member of Trinity English Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne. Virginia graduated from DePauw University where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She and her young family settled in the Chicago area, and eventually moved to Fort Wayne where she had lived for 38 years. Ginny was the center of her family’s life, enjoying all of life’s celebrations, tracking birthdays, address changes and milestones. All through the years, the kids were always excited to get their Christmas stockings from Grandma Ginny; beloved Gigi to her great-grandchildren. Friendly and outgoing, she was dearly loved by all who knew her. She adored traveling, especially to the “West,” and more recently to Florida with her sister, Dot. She took a tour of Europe with her daughter Mary, vacationed at Lake Michigan with family, went white-water rafting with her niece Susan, and loved to take her kids and then grandkids camping. She was definitely an outdoors person, and played tennis and golf as well. Ginny was employed at North American Van Lines and Charter Beacon Hospital, and volunteered for many organizations including Parkview Memorial Hospital and the Mathew 25 Health and Dental Clinic. She is survived by her children: Katherine Dolk-Ellis (Dennis McCarty), of Bloomington, Julie E. High (Larry), Mary P. Dolk, and David P. Dolk (Stefanie), all of Fort Wayne; grandchildren Lindsay Schloss (Steve), Jeff Ellis (Nicole Vincent), Ashley Reed (Jackson), Ben Ellis, Molly Ellis (Jake Allman), Kaitlyn Dolk, and Megan Dolk; and great-grandchildren Nahla, Noah, Steven, Jackson, Isabella, Sophia, and Jaxon; sister Dorothy Rouse and brother William B. Porter, Jr (Lynn), nieces and nephews Steve, Cindy, Susan, William, and Cathy. She was proceed in death by her former husband, Charles S. Dolk, brother Curt M. Porter, brother-in-law Philip B. Rouse, and nephew Russell Porter. Funeral service will be 4:00pm, Sunday, March 11, at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St Joe Road, Fort Wayne, with calling from 1 to 4pm, prior to service. A burial service will be Saturday, March 17 at 1:00pm, at St. James Methodist Church in Danville, IL, with calling 1 hour prior to service. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, Danville, Illinois.
