Lydia S. Mahrle

Lydia (Schoun) Mahrle, age 96, of Stanley, North Carolina, formerly of California Township community
and 1942 graduate of Montgomery (Michigan) High School passed away in her sleep on Wednesday, August 26th, 2020. Lydia was born on June 13, 1924 in Brookfield,Illinois. She was the sixth child of ten and the oldest daughter of Joseph land Mary (Bazant) Schoun.
In 1932, her family moved to a farm in Branch County Michigan and lived in that area until her retirement in 1998 when she moved with her husband, Alden Mahrle, to North Carolina to be near her children and grandchildren. Lydia was a lifelong member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
In 1938, she and her family became members of the Quincy (Michigan) Seventh-day Adventist Church (later Rayborn Memorial Coldwater/Quincy Seventh-day Adventist Church) where she was an active member holding varying church offices. For nearly 30 years, Lydia was employed by the Coldwater
United Methodist Church nursery. Lydia's legacy lives on at the Coldwater United Methodist Church as their nursery continues to claim the name “Lydia’s Place” in her honor and now in her memory. Lydia also held a number of domestic jobs in the Coldwater area including employment by the former owners of the Shopper’s Guide. Lydia was a regular volunteer at the former Community Service Center of the
Seventh-day Adventists in Coldwater and she enjoyed reading, playing the piano, and spending time with her grandchildren. Survivor's include: Cheryl Toney (daughter), Arden Mahrle (son), April Mahrle-Henson (daughter), Six grandchildren: Nicole Nelson (Matt), Derick Mahrle, Darrell Mahrle (Amanda), Jillian Henson, Austin Henson, Justin Henson, two great-grandchildren and two sisters: Ruth (Schoun) Kloosterhuis and Alice (Schoun) Cunningham.
The family will host a memorial service on Sunday, September 27, 2020 at 2 pm at the Coldwater Seventh-day Adventist Church in Coldwater, Michigan.
Beams Funeral Home of Fremont Indiana will arrange the interment service on Monday,September 28, 2020 at 10 am at the California Corners Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the ColdwaterSeventh-day Adventist Church, 399 N. Fremont Rd., Coldwater, Michigan 49036 under the direction of Barbara (Schoun) Miller, long time church member and niece of Lydia Mahrle.
