Richard Lee Ahlersmeyer

Richard Lee “Dick” Ahlersmeyer, age 72, of Lake James, Angola, Indiana, passed away on Friday, September 6, 2019 at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was born on March 4, 1947 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Richard E. and Mary Lou (McDowell) Ahlersmeyer. Richard graduated from Fort Wayne Southside High School in 1965. He later graduated from the University of Phoenix. He served our Country in the Air Force serving during the Vietnam War. Richard married Sheryl Wurm on February 18, 1967 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Monroeville, Indiana. He was a mechanical engineer and retired from the Raytheon Company. He was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church, Fremont, Indiana, and a proud member of the Scooter Club. His hobbies included making Indian Jewelry, Quilting, sewing, canning, remote control cars, and fishing. Survivors include his wife, Sheryl Ahlersmeyer of Lake James, Angola, Indiana, children, Richard V. (Michelle) Ahlersmeyer of Tucson, Arizona, Jennifer (Kurtis) Maiorana of Winchester, Virginia, and Jeffrey Ahlersmeyer of Tucson, Arizona, 14 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, a sister, Diana Melton of Tucson, Arizona, half-brothers, Rodney Ahlersmeyer of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Michael (Emma) Ahlersmeyer of Wolcottville, Indiana, step-brothers, Kenny (Mary Ann) Baker of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Richard Baker of Spring, Texas, a step-sister, Bonnie Vann of Tucson, Arizona, and co-soul mate (dog), Mari. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Lou Van Ry, and his father, Richard E. Ahlersmeyer. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3 pm Sunday, September 8, 2019 at Peace Lutheran Church, Fremont, Indiana. Pastor Jeffrey Teeple will officiate the service.
