Eula Gwendolyn Wells

EULA GWENDOLYN WELLS Eula Gwendolyn Wells, age 85, of Greencastle or “Gwen” as she was known by her family and friends, passed away early Saturday morning, September 1, 2018 at The Waters of Greencastle. Born April 7, 1933 at Louisville, KY, she was the daughter of Charles Everett and Connie Velma (Cassidy) Bales. She spent her early years living on a farm near Brazil, IN and later moved with her family to Cloverdale, IN where her first job was as a telephone operator. Later places of employment included the former Sarkes Tarzian rectifier plant in Bloomington, and the former Angwell Curtain Factory, P.R. Mallory’s, and Taylor Graphics, all of Greencastle. She retired in 2011 after 30 years as a receptionist and monument sales consultant for Bittles and Hurt and Hopkins-Rector Funeral Homes in Greencastle. She was married to Elmer A. Wells who preceded her in death May 24, 1977. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Joseph Randall Hurt and Charles Edward Hurt; and one brother, Everett Wayne Bales. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law Michael and Stephanie Hurt of Greencastle and sons Ray Sanders, Brazil and Doug Wells, Durham, NC; Daughter-in-law Marlene Hurt, Greencastle; one sister, Velma Branneman, Wisconsin; one brother, William Bales, Wisconsin; six grandchildren, Stacia O’Neal, Sarah Evans, Rebecca Hurt, Ryan Wells, Connor Wells, and Eddy Sanders; and several great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Friday, September 7, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Forest Hill Cemetery in Greencastle, with Pastor Jim Staggers officiating. A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at the Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home in Greencastle from 5-8 P.M. Memorials may be made to the Putnam County Food Pantry, 309 East Franklin Street, Greencastle, Indiana 46135, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
