Hershel C. Rigney, 96, of Greencastle passed away on February 24, 2020, at Hickory Creek At Sunset.
Hershel was born in Liberty Kentucky on July 22, 1923, the son of George A. and Dessie (Long) Rigney.
Mr. Rigney was a member of First Assembly of God, now Store House. He was also a Stewart with Teamsters Union #135. He was a Farmer and was a vendor at the Farmers Market for over 30 years. He was also a Truck Driver with Spector Mid-State Trucking. Hershel proudly served in the United States Army during World War II.
Survivors include six children, Wanda M. Thomas (Donald), Reelsville, Hershel Ray Rigney, Reelsville, Garry D. Rigney Sr. (Debra), Greencastle, Arlene G. Tincher, (Michael), Greencastle, Kay F. Jackson, (Ray), Avon, and Martha L. Clar, (Timothy), Greencastle; two brothers, Coy Rigney, Daytona Beach, Florida, and Lonnie Rigney Greenwood; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 64 years, Lucille (McWilliams) Rigney; a sister, Lily Asbury; four brothers, Otis, Marvin, Virgil and Roy Rigney; and two grandsons, Eric Joseph Rigney, and Kent Douglas Gilliam.
Services will be held 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 28, 2020 at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Blaydes officiating. Burial will follow in Boone-Hutcheson Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, and one hour prior to time of service on Friday.
