Obituary of Louise H. Sykes
Louise Maxine Hollomond Sykes, 69, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2021 at Sentara Careplex, Hampton, Virginia. She was born May 31, 1951 in Emporia, Virginia to the late Mr. Edward and Minister Erelene Hollomond. She graduated from Edward W. Wyatt High School in 1969 and briefly attended St. Paul’s College in Lawrenceville, Virginia before relocating to Newport News, Virginia. She was united in holy matrimony to Alvin Sykes. To this union, one son was born. She retired from NASA Langley Research Center in 2014 after 32 years. She also worked as head janitor part time for the Poquoson School System. Louise was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church in Newport News, Virginia, where she attended regularly. Louise was a loving mother, sister, aunt and friend. Her giving, mild spirit endeared her to family and many friends. She enjoyed eating out, shopping at malls, clipping coupons, watching soap operas and game shows. Even when Louise suffered a stroke in 2015 resulting in limited mobility, she remained independent with a desire to do as much for herself as possible. Louise was preceded in death by her husband Alvin, son, Alvin Lee and parents. She leaves to cherish her memory sisters, Connie Hollomond and Ruth Bullock (Mark) of Emporia; Lessie Hollomond of Hampton; Donna Anderson (Alan) of Richmond; one aunt, Rosa Turner ( Lennie) of Emporia; brother-in-law, Bernard Sykes (Dorothy) of Emporia and Leroy Sykes of Boston, Massachusetts. The family of Louise Hollomond Sykes is deeply appreciative of all prayers, cards, visits, texts, phone calls and other expressions of love and sympathy extended to us during our loss. It warms our heart and we extend our sincere thanks to all. A special thanks to her caregivers and support system. Due to COVID restrictions, there will be no repast. Don't Grieve For Me Don't grieve for me, from pain I'm free I'm following the path God has laid, you see. I took his hand when I heard his call I turned around and left it all. I could not stay another day To laugh, to love, to work or play. Tasks left undone must stay that way I found the peace on a sunny day. If my parting has left a void Then fill it with remembered joys. A family shared, a laugh, a kiss Oh yes, these things I too will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life's been full, I've savored much, Good family, good times, a loved one's touch. Perhaps my time seem all too brief Don't lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your hearts, and peace to thee. God wanted me now; From pain I'm free. - Anonymous
