Helen J Sackville

Helen Sackville, born Helen Jane Nichols, 101 years of age accepted to be with her Lord on Tuesday May 29.2018. A visitation will take place Thursday June 7, 2018 from 10:00 AM until 12 Noon at Kuiper Funeral Home 9039 Kleinman Rd (two blocks south of Ridge RD) Highland, IN. Following the visitation Helen's interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery 1413 169th St, Hammond, IN at 12:30 PM, Randy Harrison, Minster officiating. Helen was preceded in death by her husband Charley Sackville, her father James Monroe Nichols, and her mother Effie Jane Nichols (nee Maxfield) , three brothers , one sister, daughter Carol Dale, step-sons Richard Sackville, and Charles Sackville, grandchildren Kimberlee Burkholder & Jeffrey Burkholder. Helen is survived by daughter Patricia Burkholder, Carol's husband Bill Dale, daughter Jane Faught, Chuck's partner Bob Huston, Richard's wife Sandra Gayle Sackville, grandchildren Kevin Burkholder, Daniel Dale, Tom Dale, Nicolle Faught, Victoria Faught, Mark Sackville, Debbie Dickerson, Denise Morris, Melissa Sackville, Melanie Sackville, Dawn Hall, Steven Sackville, numerous great & great-great grandchildren. Helen was born October 13,1916. She grew up with her siblings on a farm in Medaryville Indiana, where the family raised cows, chickens, pigs, wheat and corn, and a variety of vegetables, Helen said her family never went hungry, which she attributed to hard work. "You learn to work on a farm", she said. She married Carl Brown when she was 19,and left the farm to begin her family, giving birth to daughters Patricia, and then Carol. She later worked at various jobs to help support the family, including putting linens in fur coats. She was also a seamstress, and sewed clothes for the children to save money. She married a second time, to Charley Sackville, embracing his son's Richard & Charles into the family, and later giving birth to another daughter, Jane. Helen moved to Decatur Illinois, and lived a good life there, until the passing of her husband, Charley. She then moved to Munster, Indiana, and at 75, still vibrant and wanting to have a career, she became a real estate agent. She worked until her retirement at 82, and later moved to Florida. She moved to Naperville, Illinois in 2007, where she thrived in a retirement community, taking the public bus to go shopping, and even walking to the area's hospital, where she did charity work. In her final chapter, she lived at Asbury Gardens in North Aurora, Illinois, where she was beloved by the staff for always having a big smile, before making her final move, to return and live with our Lord.
