Obituary of John Henry Rivich

IN THE CARE OF

Kuiper Funeral Home

John Henry Rivich, age 82, of Highland, IN, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at his residence with his loving son at his side and watching the Cubs on TV on opening day. Born in East Chicago, IN on April 6, 1941 to the late Andrew and Ruth (Osman) Rivich, John is also preceded in death by his cherished brothers, Michael and Paul Rivich. He is survived by his sister, Barbara; brothers, Kevin and Thomas; and was a proud father to Michael (Jean) Rivich. John was a graduate of East Chicago Washington High School. He honorably served on the USS Mahan during the Vietnam War in the Philippians until 1965. He retired as a union sheet metal worker from Local #20 after 30 years of faithful service. He still remained in the union until his passing, being a member for nearly 60 years. After retirement, he enjoyed being a dealer at the Majestic Star Casino. He was a member of the VFW #9982 of Griffith, the American Legion Post #180 of Highland, and the Elks Lodge #981 of Highland. With no use for tears and having been a lifelong HARDASS, he requested to be cremated and have a private burial in the Veterans section of Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. There will be no funeral services, per his wishes. However, if you would like to have a drink in John's honor, stop at the American Legion Post #180 on the corner of Ridge Road and 2nd Street (2703 Jewett Street, Highland, IN 46322) from 3:30 - 7:00 pm on April 12, 2024. May God grant you fair winds and following seas. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.KuiperFH.com for the Rivich family.
