Shirley A Cearing

Shirley A. Cearing (nee Bottorff), 86, of Dyer, IN, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018. She is survived by her children Cynthia (John) Mack, Melissa (Thomas) Shumylo, Scott C. (Karen) Cearing, Jonathan Cearing, Laura Cearing and Jeffrey Cearing. Grandchildren: Jennifer (Cody) Pack, Ryan (Magdalena) Mack, Jason (Rosa) Shumylo, Brian (Stephanie Peralez) Shumylo, Kelly (Ryan) O’Day, Cathryn Cearing, Cody Galeotti, Randall Cearing, Lauren Cearing, Scott J. Cearing, Daniel Nichols; and 13 great-grandchildren. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Ralph, daughter Deborah and sister Lois Pearson. Shirley was born to Roy and Grace Bottorff in Danville, IL. She was a 1950 graduate of Hammond High School. Shirley’s career included newspaper correspondent for The Hammond Times and, later, career counselor. She was also a former organist and director of the chancel choir and teen choir at the Dyer United Methodist Church. Shirley was a long-time Cubs fan and loved following politics. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 10 AM, at Dyer United Methodist Church, 2016 Church St., in Dyer. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dyer United Methodist Church Food Pantry.
