Obituary of Margie L. Lawver

Margie L. Lawver, 96 of North Manchester and formerly of Huntington passed away at 1:06 pm on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at Timbercrest Senior Living in North Manchester. Viewing will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2019 with funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Salamonie Church of the Brethren, 2662 W. 600 S. in Warren, Indiana. Interment will be at the Lancaster Cemetery. Margie was the only child of Donald S. Stroup and Fern Hacker Stroup, born July 11, 1923, at Huntington Hospital, Huntington, Indiana. She lived in Lancaster Township for 94 years until she moved to Timbercrest in North Manchester December 28, 2017. Margie graduated from Lancaster High School in 1941 and married Henry F. Lawver on Christmas Eve 1942. They worked their farm together until retirement in 1984. They had a Jersey dairy farm, raised pigs, corn, wheat, oats, beans, hemp, tomatoes, grapes and lots of garden produce. Margie was a lifelong member of the Salamonie Church of the Brethren where she served in many capacities on the Church Board. She sang in the choir for 8 decades, taught children Sunday school, and served on the Building Committee of the current church. Henry and Margie were trustees of Lancaster Township for over 10 years. Margie was a member of the local Home Economics Club. Until recent years she gathered monthly to annually with members of her high school graduating class, fondly referred to as the ’41 Club. Most of all she loved her family, her church, and her community. Preceded in death by her mother and father, step mother Amy Heaston Stroup, and her husband of 55 years. Margie is survived by her two daughters, Lana Groombridge (Graham) of North Manchester, Ann Lawver of Coralville, Iowa, 2 grand children, Erin Eberly (Matt) of Fishers, Indiana, Greg Groombridge of Ft. Wayne, 2 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews and their children. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made out to Salamonie Church of the Brethren or Timbercrest Senior Living Center both in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, IN 46750.
