Obituary of Margaret Sabens
Passed on to life eternal on January 8th due to complications from heart surgery. She passed peacefully, surrounded by her loving family. Peggy was born April 28, 1936 in Vineland, NJ to the late Earnest and Margaret Dorgan Schucker. The family moved to Indianapolis when Peggy was 12. She graduated from St Joan of Arc, Shortridge High School and Indiana University with a BS in Medical Records Science. She married Jim Sabens on December 27, 1954. Together they had 3 children, David Sabens, Gregory (Amy) Sabens, and John Sabens. She leaves two grandchildren, Matthew Sabens, and Katherine Sabens. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Sabens, MD. After graduation, Peggy joined her husband's medical practice and they worked together during the entirety of his practice. Peggy was a community leader and was active in many organizations including; serving as President of the Contemporary Club, President of the Fortnightly Literary Club, Board member of the Meridian Street Foundation, Board member of Indianapolis Classical Schools and Board member of the Scientech Club. She had many interests including; historic preservation, bridge, music, opera, theatre, dance, travel and writing. She also was a loyal Colts fan and attended the 500 every year. In addition, Peggy loved nature, wild life and her pets, that were constantly pampered. Peggy will be deeply missed by so many that she touched with her intelligence, dedication and compassion throughout her full and meaningful life. Services will be at Second Presbyterian Church followed by burial at Crown Hill Cemetery on January 14th at 11 a.m.. Due to Covid-19 attendance restrictions, the service will be streamed on https:www.secondchurch.org/funeral. A celebration of her fantastic life will be held in the spring. Contributions may be made in her honor to Indianapolis Classical Schools, Second Presbyterian Church or Redeemer Presbyterian Church.
