Rosemary Anne Gatewood

Rosemary Ann Gatewood, “Rosie”, 93, Carmel, Indiana passed away on November 10, 2021.
She was born on May 7, 1928 to Leroy and Virginia Englert, in Indianapolis. Rosie was
preceded in death by her husband Kenneth who passed away in 2003. Rosie and Ken were
married in 1949 and were “best friends” through 54 years of marriage.
As a child, she attended Emmanus Luthern Elementary School and Manual High School. She
graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Butler University in 1956, and then went on
to obtain her Master of Science degree from Butler University in 1965. She studied textiles and
clothing design, and made several of her own clothes throughout her adult life. Over the years,
Rosie was a 4H judge of fashion design, textiles and clothing construction at the Indiana State
Fair as well as several county fairs.
Rosie was a founding member of the Children’s Museum Guild. In 1964, she was a member of
the committee that initiated the Children’s Museum Haunted House and went on to be
committee chairman of the Haunted House for several years.
Rosie and Ken were active golf members of Crooked Stick and Hillcrest Country Club. Rose
was an excellent golfer and participated in several city and state wide women’s golf
tournaments. She also served as President of OLGA (Old Ladies Golf Association) for 8 years.
Many lasting friendships were formed on the golf course over the years. Rosie hung up her
clubs at age 79.
