Obituary of Sue Ann Lighty
Sue Lighty passed away May 3, 2021 after a brief illness. She was born on March 12, 1938 to Eileen and “Skeeter” McGuirk, who preceded her in death. Sue is survived by husband Jim, daughter Patty (Bill) Vance, son-in law Kye Waltermire, grandsons Jacob (Olivia) Waltermire and Ben Waltermire, great-granddaughter, Flynn Waltermire. Daughter, Cheryl Waltermire also preceded her in death. Sue was born in Peru, Indiana where she met Jim. They would graduate from Peru High School in 1956 and marry in 1957. Her and Jim continued to make the monthly drive to Peru, Indiana to have lunch and catch-up with classmates and had just resumed those trips after a pause in 2020. She loved those Friday visits with her life-long friends. Sue loved visits and phone calls from family and everyone was family to Sue. She talked with her daughter Patty every day and shared highlights of her day, which always included calls from friends and family she had talked to during the day. Although, she might not have met them, Patty sure knew who they all were and all about them. Her favorite visitors and calls came from grandsons Jacob and Ben and great-granddaughter Flynn. In fact, it was seven-year-old Flynn who helped “Grandma Sue” with technology, teaching her to do facetime on her Kindle. She loved and was so proud of Jacob, Ben and Flynn. She also was so happy to have both Olivia and Meg to call her Grandma too. When you became a friend with Sue, you were a friend for life, and she had many. Besides her classmates from Peru, there were neighbors and friends of more than 50 years, the Bells, the Burtons and the Bottorff families. Who knew when Jim and Sue moved to this little town called Waynesville, the neighbors they met, Sharon, Max and Phyllis and all their children would stay great friends throughout all these years. Sue loved sending cards to everyone for birthdays and anniversaries. If she knew your address, birthday and/or anniversary most likely you got a card from Sue. And amazingly she remembered them all and always had them made out and ready to mail each month. Sue was an early riser and loved drinking coffee, checking Facebook and doing crossword puzzles. She was also an avid reader and loved getting books from the library and from Patty’s collection. After daughter Cheryl’s passing, she so appreciated the Waltermire Family for embracing us as part of the family and loved spending time with Janice and Larry. Sue loved fiercely and will be missed by all.
