Obituary of Lucille Adkins Eggleston
Lucille Adkins Spencer Eggleston of Kings Grant passed away on June 10, 2019. She was born June 16, 1919 in Franklin County to the late Elsie Walker Adkins and the late Charles Lee Adkins. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband Walter Barnes Spencer and her second husband, Dorsey Wayland Eggleston; four brothers, Charles Lee, Walter, Calvin and Bently Adkins; five sisters, Mildred Holden, Margaret McBride, Geneva Barger, Frances Zimmerman and Mary Peterson; three deceased half-brothers, Percy, Raymond and Gary Adkins. Those left to cherish her memory are two daughters Arlene Dunn of Martinsville and Linda Stone of Bassett; four granddaughters: Catherine McLachlan and husband Bill of Williamsburg, Va.; Jackie VanDyke and husband Litz of Martinsville; Stacy Hertel and husband Sean, and Leigh Ann Ramsey and husband, Scott, both of Charlotte, N.C.; ten great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter; also one half-sister, Eleanor Adkins Baird of Desmond Beach, Fl. For the past nineteen years, our mother lived independently in the Kings Grant Village. Only within the last six months did her health begin to decline and she moved her home into the assisted living area. Last June 16, 2018 the family celebrated our mother’s 99th birthday. She was truly surprised and reveled in all of the attention. There was a full house and she made sure everyone individually was greeted. She loved her family and in turn, they loved her and admired her strength and determination. A private family graveside service conducted by Reverend Paul J. Johnson was held at Oakwood Cemetery on Wednesday, June 12, 2019. A family luncheon remembering and honoring our mother was held at the home of Litz and Jackie VanDyke following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Network or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Our many thanks to those at Kings Grant Hospice and the ones who sat with her for their loving attention and care.
