Obituary of Janis R. Hendrickson
Janis Rae Hendrickson, 81, of Mechanicsville, Va. passed on to her Heavenly Home, March 3, 2019. She was born on October 22, 1937 in Dallas, Tx. Her maiden name, Janis Rae Potter, was raised in Dallas, Tx. Janis attended N.R. Crozier Technical High School, Dallas Tx. and graduated in 1956 and voted ‘Most Likely to Succeed-Runner Up'. She went on to work at Republic National Bank and then General Electric. Janis was married on July 10th, 1956 to Myron Monte Hendrickson, Jr. at Walnut Hill Assembly’s of God in Dallas, Tx. She later relocated with her husband to Arlington, Va. in 1966. She and her husband resided in Ashburn and Leesburg, Va. and lived the remainder of their lives in Mechanicsville, Va. During her time in Virginia, Janis worked for the U.S. Army, National Science Foundation and the United States National Geological Survey as an Administrative Assistant. She also worked for Sully Elementary School, in administrative work and Calvary Temple Christian School as a teacher, both located in Sterling, Va. As a housewife, mother, and grandmother, she was very devoted to taking care of her husband, two sons, and grandchildren. She loved to hum and sing praise & worship music and hymns while cooking in the kitchen. Janis was also known as ‘Nana’ to her grandchildren and she loved spending time with them and getting the grandchildren together for sleepovers at their house. Janis was also a very strong wife, mother, and grandmother who was a cancer survivor and went on to live a full life with her loving family. Janis is now reunited with her husband of 61 years, Myron M. Hendrickson, Jr.; her sister, Nadine Joyce Dafft; her mother, Lena Powell Potter; her father, Willie Rae Potter, and her granddaughter, Heather Noel Hendrickson. Janis is survived by her two sons, Robbie Hendrickson and Monte Hendrickson, wife, Bonnie, of Stafford and a daughter-in-law, Denise Hendrickson, of Richmond. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Brandon, Ashley, Jeremy, Brooke and Kaylee; and three great-grandchildren, Landon, Emma, and Katalina. A visitation at Woody Funeral Home - Atlee Chapel, 9271 Shady Grove Rd., Mechanicsville, Va. 23116, is scheduled for Saturday, March 9, 2019 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Immediately following the visitation, there will be a funeral service at 12:00 p.m. in the chapel with interment in Signal Hill Memorial Park.
