Bettie J. Bookout

Bettie Jayne “Combat Bettie” Bookout, 81, of Yorktown, gained her wings on Saturday, October 9, 2021, at I.U. Health Ball Memorial. She was born in Blountsville, Indiana, on February 7, 1940, the daughter of Virgil and Lucille (Patterson) Bird. Bettie graduated from Center High School, which later became Wapahani High School. She married Marvin D. Bookout, and they shared sixty-one wonderful years together before he passed away July 18, 2020. Bettie was a wonderful homemaker, wife, and mother. She lived in the Delaware County area all her life, but enjoyed traveling and was a member of the Women of the Moose. She received degrees in Past Regent and the Regent Academy of Friendship, and served as Deputy Grand Regent for the State of Indiana. Her family was her world, and she loved taking care of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bettie is survived by her sons, Jim (Lucy) Bookout, Tim Bookout (friend, Ginger), Michael (Mary) Bookout, and Jeffrey (Rhonda) Bookout; brothers, Phil (Pat) Bird and Virgil “Butch” Bird; sister, Doris Long; eleven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; her parents, Virgil and Lucille Bird; brother, David Bird, mother-in-law, Lois Wanda Bookout; father-in-law, Marvin Bookout; and brother-in-law, Carl Long. Friends and family may call on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana 47304. Services will be on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at Elm Ridge Funeral Home. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, masks are required as well as social distancing.
