Richard A. Lawhorn – 76, Yorktown, Indiana
Richard Lawhorn of Yorktown passed away on Monday, April 15, 2024 at his home following a brief illness. Rick was born on March 22, 1948, at Ball Hospital, Muncie, Indiana. The Lawhorn family would like to thank the IU Hospice Team for their guidance and support.
Rick is survived by his wife of forty-four years, Suzie Lawhorn. Rick and Suzie have two children, daughter, Holly; son, Steven; and granddaughter, Kayleigh Agugliaro, all of Yorktown.
Rick was an Army Veteran and served in Vietnam. He felt that his military training resulted in life skills that he used often. Rick was proud of his service. He attended Ball State University and retired from Marsh Transport as a driver. Rick and his dad built the Lawhorn family home, and they were both proud of the results. He enjoyed woodworking and helping others. After his retirement, he enjoyed gardening and working with flowers. Rick was grateful for the time he got to spend with his granddaughter, Kayleigh, as exhibited with their special bond.
Rick was preceded in death by his mom and dad, Margaret and Charles Koger; two brothers, Kelly and David; brother-in-law, Robert Stout Jr.; and cousin, Mike Greer.
A private graveside memorial service for the family will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at Elm Ridge Memorial Park, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana 47304. Military Rites will be conducted by the Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, if you wish to do a memorial in Rick’s name you could consider the Little Red Door or Veterans Association.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at elmridgefuneralhome.com for the family.
