Harold Emmett Richlie

21 April , 195815 November , 2019

Harold E. Richlie 61, passed away peacefully November 15, 2019. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Robin and two step children Leigh Ann, Andrew, his son in-law, Wes, and his 3 grandchildren who he adored, Aubrey, Carter and Weston who affectionately call him grand-daddy. Harold grew up in Virginia Beach, graduated from First Colonial High School class of 76 and attended Old Dominion University earning a degree in business. As a trim carpenter and home builder by trade, Harold also loved reading, solving puzzles, fishing, golfing and baseball. His laugh was infectious and all within earshot had no choice but to laugh along. Harold took fashion queues from no-one. His signature look was exclusive and uniquely different every day; a baggy shirt, comfortable pants, boat shoes and a ball cap. If Harold could sum up his life it would be… “I just tried to do the best I could. Sometimes I succeeded and sometimes I failed. Being unorganized was how I managed life. Even with my jokes, antics and complaints I really loved people and ALL animals especially my beloved pets, Foxy, Katie, Suzi Q. (aka Monk), Lily and Spice. I want to thank all the people along the way; those who loved me, helped me, cared for me and laughed with me. Knowing you all is what made my life worthwhile. If you want to do something to honor my memory I’d like to suggest: - Show kindness to animals and instead of wasting your money on flowers give a donation, in my memory to the Virginia Beach SPCA - Write a letter to someone letting them know how they inspire you - Put your phone away and talk to a kid about their hopes and dreams - Forgive someone who doesn’t deserve it - Make someone smile today if it’s in your power to do so” A celebration of Harold’s life will be held on November 23rd at 11:00 am at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd. Norfolk, VA 23502. Dress comfortably for this celebration… Harold would have!

I’ll miss you Harold. You were a great friend, who I grew up admireing. You were a simple man, who worked hard, and always had a good thought about everyone. And everyone could learn from your kind heart. Rest In Peace. I’ll look you up ,and see you again one day brother.

I am in complete shock to hear of Harold's death. I have such fond memories of the numerous years spent with his only living relative, his brother David's daughter, Sara at "Uncle's" house in Suffolk. Our teenage years spent in Uncle and Aunt Robin's home, where Sara lived with the two, will forever hold a fond place in my heart. His loud snoring and sleeping with the television turned all the way up, teasing and scolding of Sara, and kind-hearted way will always live on in my memories. He was a wonderful man and a blessing to all who had the opportunity to know him. My most sincere condolences are extended to Robin, Sara, Leigh-Ann, and Andy.

I was shocked to hear of Harold's Passing. Having dated his dear sister Sharon for 4 years , he and I were like brothers. That was literally 40 years ago but still have vivid/ fond memories of the Richlie family. My heartfelt condolences to all the family and friends who have lost him. I’m just floored by this news....

Robin & family,

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Tonight, in Hal’s memory, I am setting my phone aside and talking to Krisalyn about her hopes and dreams. Without ever knowing your husband, he has left a positive impact on me. I can’t imagine the impact he had on those that he knew. You are one of the sweetest people Robin. My prayers for peace and comfort for you and your family during this difficult time.

My sincere sympathy. Hal was a smart, sweet, funny guy, and one of my favorite cousins. Sorry that we did not spend more time together over the years. I hope that his memory will bring comfort to those who love him. Go now and be reunited with Hal Sr., Sharon, David, Janice, and others who have gone before.
With love,
