Yates, Mr. James “Jim”: Passed away peacefully on April 16, 2018, in his 78th year, at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre. He was born in Kendal, England on June 15, 1940 and immigrated to Canada with his parents in 1947. He grew up in Toronto and did some travelling around the world. Pre-deceased by his parents James and Elizabeth Grant and his half–brother Alexander Grant. Beloved husband of Mary (nee DiFalco) for 48 years. Loving father to Jason Yates (Deverie Gifford) and Jeremy Yates (Jennifer). Dear Gramps of Joshua. Brother-in-law of Angie Fiorini (Peter), Grace Salvati (Nick), Jane Crescenzi (Rocco, deceased). Uncle and Great-Uncle of many nieces and nephews. Jim worked at the University of Toronto, Purchasing Dept for 28 years, as a buyer and as acting director. Upon retirement, they moved to Peterborough in 2007 to be closer to their beloved cottage. His passion was books and reading. He also enjoyed his volunteer time with the “Friends of the Library”. Bibliophiles book collector and met with a group for coffee twice a week. Loved spending time at the cottage-relaxing by the lake while reading, canoeing and fishing with his sons and grandson. Friends will be received at the COMSTOCK-KAYE LIFE CELEBRATION CENTRE, 356 Rubidge Street on Sunday, April 22, 2018 from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at the CATHEDRAL OF ST. PETER IN CHAINS, 411 Reid Street on Monday, April 23, 2018 at 10:30 am. Interment St. Peter’s Cemetery. Memorial donations to The Canadian Cancer Society, Hospice Peterborough or the Canadian Liver Foundation would be appreciated.
