Ida Estelle Benson

BENSON, Ida Estelle, 96, of Henrico, went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 29, 2018. She was born and raised in Buckingham. Ida retired from Lucent Technology at the age of 80. She was a hard worker all of her life and loved taking care of her flowers. Ida was preceded in death by her daughter, Carolyn Chapman; son-in-law, Stanley Chapman; and her grandson, Charles Chapman. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Hall; son, Robert McAlister (Kay); daughter, Christy Pierce; grandchildren, Tony Chapman, Debra Allen, Holly Simpson (Mike), Gary Oliver (Amy), Valerie Oliver, Heather Johnson (Todd), Shannon Meyer (Chris), Matika Pierce (Nick), Nicole Saettel, Alex Hall; granddaughter and caregiver, Amanda Pierce, who took very good care and loved her grandmother with all of her heart; and ten great-grandchildren. Ida enjoyed entertaining family and friends. Ida was very well read and she was a history buff knowing all there was to know about her favorite president, Thomas Jefferson. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 2 pm to 4 pm and from 6 pm to 8 pm at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Va. 23231, where funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 am in the funeral home chapel. Entombment will follow at Signal Hill Memorial Park in Hanover.
