John "Pop" Jr., 95, passed away peacefully in his home on March 1, 2010. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Agnes; his daughter, Peggy Ambrose; and his three siblings. He is survived by his two children, Eileen Lane (Mickey) and John Mader III (Linda); four grandchildren, Rob Ambrose (Joy), Scott Ambrose (Anna), Michelle Harrison (Matt) and Julie Mader and her fiance, James Dorn; six great-grandchildren, Jay, Tara, Kendall, Logan, Angelina and Jessica. He loved to share stories and tell people of when he worked as a gourmet grocer at Stieber's in Baltimore, Md., for over 50 years as "a butcher, a baker, but not a candlestick maker." Later in life, he volunteered at St. Mary's Catholic School three times a week and dressed up as Santa Claus for many holiday seasons. Pop had a passion for life. His passions included fishing, baseball, the ocean and spending time with his family, and was dearly loved by all who knew him. Family and friends will be received Friday, March 5, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Graveside service at a later date in Baltimore, Md. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to be made to the American Cancer Society .
