Opal Smedley

Opal Smedley, age 90, of Lafayette, Indiana, went to be with the Lord on May 14, 2018. She was preceded in death by her parents Bill & Mandy Stamper; husband, J.D. Smedley; daughter, Judie Rhodes; and a grandson Joey Saksa. Opal is survived by her children, James Jr., Tom (JoAnn), Bill (Jamie), Dave, Brian Smedley, Barb Harrison, Amanda (Bob) Saksa and Melissa (Deron) White; 15 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Opal was born in 1928 in Sergent, Ky. In 1948 she married J.D. Smedley in Millstone, KY. and they had 9 children. She was devoted to her husband, her children, and the Lord, and was loved by all who knew her. Visitation will be Thursday, May 17, 2018 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm, and resume from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home (8178 Cline Ave.; Crown Point, IN 46307). Friends may gather again from 10:00 am until the time of her funeral at 11:00 am, Friday, May 18, 2018 with Pastor Jerry Martin officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
