Fletcher Snead McCutcheon

Fletcher Snead McCutcheon, 83, a resident of Shenandoah, died on Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010, at his home. He had not enjoyed good health for 16 years. A son of the late Rhody and Rachel Hawks McCutcheon, he was born on Oct. 2, 1927 in Petersburg, VA. He resided in Hopewell, VA and graduated from Hopewell High School in 1944. He received his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Geology from Virginia Tech in 1954 and 1955 respectively. He had served in the Air Force prior to attending Virginia Tech. Mr. McCutcheon had made his home in the Rocky Mountains; California; Brisbane, Australia; Connecticut; Lagos, Nigeria and Miami, Florida prior to moving to Shenandoah. He retired from Texaco after 31 years of services as the Vice President of Exploration, Latin America and West Africa. Mr. McCutcheon was a member of the science fraternity, Sigma Kappa Phi, an honor Society. He was also a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Shenandoah and the Masons. On Aug. 20, 1949 he married Dolores Vincent McCutcheon, who survives him. Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Kyle E. McCutcheon of Brisbane, Australia; one son, Kirk Fletcher McCutcheon and his wife, Lori of San Antonio, TX; two grandsons, Kevin Ashby McCutcheon of Logan, Utah and Neil Fletcher McCutcheon of Stillwater, OK. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 Friday afternoon, Oct. 8, from the Chapel of the Lindsey-Kyger Funeral Home in Shenandoah with Mr. Larry Sullivan officiating.
